Galle
Galle is a historic coastal city located on the southwestern tip of Sri Lanka, about 119 km from Colombo. Before the arrival of the Portuguese Empire in the 16th century, Galle was known as Gimhathiththa and served as one of the island’s main ports. The city reached its peak development during the 18th century under the rule of the Dutch Empire. An important river in the region is the Gin River (Gin Ganga), which begins at Gongala Kanda and flows through villages such as Neluwa, Nagoda, Baddegama, Thelikada, and Wakwella before reaching the sea at Ginthota. The Wakwella Bridge, located in Wakwella, crosses this river and is known as the longest bridge in Sri Lanka.
