Kandy

Kandy, known in Sinhala as Maha Nuwara and historically called Senkadagalapura, is a major city located in the central region of Sri Lanka. It serves as the capital of both the Central Province and the Kandy District. Surrounded by hills and situated within the scenic Kandy Valley, the city lies in an area famous for its lush tropical plantations, especially tea estates. Because of its beautiful natural setting and rich cultural heritage, Kandy is considered one of the most picturesque cities in Sri Lanka. In addition to its natural beauty, Kandy plays an important role as both an administrative center and a significant religious city in the country.
